The Bronx Defenders Mourns Passing of Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson
New York – The Bronx Defenders mourns the death of Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson, who passed away last night after a battle with cancer.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Thompson’s family, friends, and staff,” said Robin Steinberg, Executive Director of The Bronx Defenders. “A staunch advocate for criminal justice reform, Ken Thompson leaves an important legacy in the Brooklyn DA’s office. We hope others will continue to build on his work.”
Ken Thompson led important criminal justice reform efforts as Brooklyn’s first African-American district attorney, including the revamping of a special unit to review potential wrongful convictions, and ending the prosecution of most low-level marijuana arrests. He was 50.
