Thomas Klein


Tom (he/him/his) is a seasoned public defender. Prior to joining The Bronx Defenders, he spent over 36 years working at the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan. During his time there, he was a staff attorney, supervising attorney, co-head of the Manhattan trial office, Director of Litigation, and Senior Homicide Attorney. He has also conducted trainings on trial and suppression issues for public defender offices throughout New York State. He is a member of the faculty of the New York State Defenders Association Basic Trials Skills Program, the Defenders’ Academy, and the National College of Criminal Defense Macon program. Tom also co-authored the Legal Aid Society manual, “Expanding the Scope of Cross-Examination,” a two-volume publication (Volume One: Suppression Hearings; Volume Two: Trials).  He was given NYSDA’s Service of Justice Award in 2012 and NYSBA’s Award for Outstanding Achievements in Promoting Standards of Excellence in Mandated Representation in 2017.
