Sarah Smith

Sarah Smith (she/her/hers) has devoted her legal career to advocacy and policy reform aimed at fighting for justice for families and people with disabilities. She began her legal career at the Bronx Defenders in 2007 during the first year of our Family Defense Practice. She later worked as a Senior Program Attorney with National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges on policy reforms designed to improve the response of family courts to the needs of parents experiencing domestic violence. Prior to her return to family defense, Sarah spent two years representing New Yorkers with disabilities in discrimination matters as an attorney with Disability Rights New York. Prior to law school, she worked as a labor organizer and a freelance journalist. Sarah holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Brown University.
