Carol Larancuent

Growing up in the Bronx, Carol quickly identified that she lived in an environment designed to dehumanize and disenfranchise Black and brown families and communities. Navigating these conditions was the breeding ground for her advocacy and commitment to contribute to the unveiling of true justice. Carol graduated cum laude from Alfred University, where she double majored in Criminal Justice and Sociology. After graduation, she came back home to The Bronx and joined The Bronx Defenders as an Arraignment Clerk in the Criminal Defense Practice. After three years, she joined the Immigration Practice as a Legal Advocate to support individuals and families fighting deportation cases. In addition to her client-centered work, Carol is an Immigration Policy Advocate working on creating systemic change towards building a more just and equitable society. Carol is also part of our Equity & Institutional Transformation Department as an Anti-Oppression Team Associate, where she examines current public defense practices through an anti-oppression lens with the objective of disrupting harm and transforming how we work together as an organization to make it safe for marginalized people to exist and thrive.
