News12: Public defenders across the city stand in solidarity with the black community

“Public defenders from across the city stood in solidarity with the black community and the Black Lives Matter movement on Monday.

Protesters walked from the Bronx Supreme Court and made their way to Foley Square to meet up with other protesters

Many of them say that they became defense attorneys because of their own negative experiences with police and the justice system.

Now, in their practice, they’re the ones accompanying their clients–who are many times black men and women–to court and police precincts.

They tell News 12 that aside from their clients, they’re the ones who see firsthand how unjust the system is.

Attorneys from the Bronx Defenders, Legal Aid Society, Neighborhood Defender Service and more showed up to stand in solidarity.”
