HuffPost Live: Kumar Rao interviewed on death of Eric Garner and police brutality
“We need to hold the police department as a whole accountable for the culture that allows for police officers to regularly profile people of color, target them, [and] use physical force against them.”
The Bronx Defenders Criminal Defense Attorney and Director of Strategic Initiatives Kumar Rao appeared on HuffPost Live last night, hosted by Ricky Camilleri, to join in a discussion on police brutality in New York City and what we can do to stop it. Other guests in the discussion included Kirsten John Foy, Regional Director of National Action Network and Kami Chavis Simmons, Law Professor at Wake Forest University. The conversation was spurred by the recent tragedy of a Staten Island man who, about to be arrested on charges of illegally selling cigarettes, was choked to death by an NYPD officer.
